Riverwave is currently offering marketing gifts to its customers. Along with a registration form for their internet package (costing 4725 Yen/Month), they send potential customers a pad of post-its as well as a mouse pad. Customers receive these marketing gifts through mail. The registration form can then be mailed back to the company should the customer want to sign up for the internet package.

What are marketing gifts?

Marketing gifts are complimentary items given to customers. A customer does not need to purchase any product or service in order to receive this gift. For Riverwave, the recipients of the post-its and mouse pad do not have any obligation to subscribe to the internet package offered to them.

What are the benefits of marketing gifts?

Offering customers gifts without them having to purchase anything from you doesn’t sound like a very good idea. But offering marketing gifts do have many intangible benefits. I shall briefly explain two benefits.

Firstly, marketing gifts leave an impact. Even though the recipient of the gift may not purchase what you are trying to offer, he would remember your brand or come to know about your brand. The gifts also leave a good impression on the recipient. In the future, when the recipient requires a product or service you provide, your brand would come to his mind and he would end up being your customer!

Secondly, marketing gifts can be used as samples. If you would like to launch a new product or would like to promote a current product, you may give a sample of it as a marketing gift. The marketing gift may not be the full product, but it should be able to let the recipient experience the benefits that he would receive from your product.
