In a sport steeped in tradition is a lesser talked about one of offering promotional products to the first so-many-thousand fans through the gate on any particular gameday. These promotional giveaway days are advertised beforehand on ballclubs’ websites and frequently mentioned during broadcasts by the commentators. Often products can include items such as bobbleheads of players, towels, scarfs, hoodies, hats and bags. An example of one of these upcoming promotions is the Los Angeles Dodgers Ryu Hyun-jin bobblehead presented by the Korean airline, Asiana Airlines. Dodgers’ pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin and Rangers’ outfielder Choo Shin-soo are the two biggest Korean names currently playing in the MLB. While they’re both extremely talented players, these acquisitions are undoubtedly far more than talent based; If you walk down any busy Korean street you’ll see many people in Dodgers or Indians apparel (the latter being Choo’s old team). Clearly this is an opportunity for ballclubs to sell their team apparel overseas and looking at this it’s clear that there is a huge relationship between sports and promotions.
