Innovative Origami meets functional design!

Today I was inspired by the innovative works and products of Chairigami. The team at Chairigami are 100% recycle and environmentally driven, taking full advantage of the mechanical and physical properties of card to produce fully functional, easy to assemble and most impressively, durable cardboard furniture.

Numerous slots and fold lines allow the products to be assembled without the need of extra parts and fiddly bits. But what I particularly like about the products is the structured way in which they have been created in order to provide the user with a strong, functional product.

Now you’re thinking, a cardboard chair for my office? How untidy? How unattractive? Well you’re wrong. The Chairigami products ooze with visual appeal. For example, the chairs have a very particular and symmetrical structure, combining sharp geometric- shaped edges and side profiles. The specific build not only allows them to be assembled rapidly, and delivered efficiently but allows them to last a long time regardless of the amount of use.

All of the products are created with a triple-wall, three ply corrugated board and is free of any nasty resins or glues. The board is 70% recycled and 30% FSC certified virgin fiber. That is the same material used for military used and industrial packaging! Strong stuff aye! The replacement of other material use such as metal and wood also reduces the setup and material cost but also allows the designers to experiment with product structure and form.
