It is most irregular for Hong Kong to be hit with a Typhoon in October. This year the HK Mega Show closed all day Friday. Hong Kongers enjoy a very long weekend but lots of Chinese exhibitors must have been very bored and disappointed with the wasted investment.

The official announcement on the Megashow websites stated: “With Tropical Cyclone Warning signal No. 8 still being in force by now, today’s show remains closed for the rest of the day”.

At 6.30 PM new announcement appeared:

The Show Resumes To Open As Normal. As the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 has been lowered, the show will resume to open as normal.

Severe typhoon Haima really put a dampner on things, but don’t worry…. ODM had staff and clients walking the show on Thursday and we got some great products already. Here is just a quick insight into 2 items which we find to be super interesting:

  • Magnetic Timer

This 1 minute, 2 minutes or 5 minutes long magnetic timer has a unique implementation: after falling down the tiny magnetic chips are transformed in figures. The most interesting part is that the shape for these figures is customisable! You can also have the timer itself branded with your logo.

  • Dancing “Piggy bank”

Put the coin inside and you will see the monkey dancing! This product is a really good idea for charity organisations and much more interesting alternative to boring charity boxes. Likewise, perfect toy for kids to serve as piggy bank to play with.

Tomorrow we will continue exploring HK Megashow, and next week Canton fair is coming… Be prepared for a bunch of cool promo ideas.

In the meantime if you’re think about catching the HK Buses, maybe a boat would be a better plan!
