Most Product Buyers who come to Hong Kong will take a flight or train into China to visit with suppliers. This can be done alone or with a dedicated buying agent from Hong Kong. Visiting a factory in Canton province can easily be done in a day. Here we will explain logistics for taking the train.
100 years ago, on 1 October 1910, railway operations first began in Hong Kong. The Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) has now merged with the MTRC underground system but the name of the train stays the same, the KCR running frequent services to the Chinese border with Hong Kong. The company also offers train services direct to China. The rail network currently carries about 4.3 million people/day.
From Hung Hom Station you catch the train direct to China without having to go through an immigration stop at the border. Check the train schedule & purchase train tickets online or at China travel services in advance. See links and check out your Visa Requirements here.
Booking ahead is esp. important during the Canton Fair period where seats are sold out on some trains. Try to arrive at the station 30 to 45 min before departure time. You need to go through HK Immigration at the station.
Get to the train station through exit C if you go there via the MTR. It is also very easy and cheap to take taxis in Hong Kong. Then, make your way to the ticketing booth to buy/collect your ticket. Follow direction boards to the ticketing counter.
There are 10-12 trains daily between Hong Kong and China. Travel time – see graph at end of blog for current schedule.
The green oval in the picture on the left shows which seat which seat numbers belong to. Don’t forget to fill in your arrival cards before getting to the station to speed your way through Chinese Immigration lines!
If you cannot visit the factory yourself feel free to contact ODM’s QC team who can arrange quality control at factories for you.
Enjoy your trip and let us know your comments – any changes to schedule etc.. pls. let us know….
