Duty free promotions often prove to be an excellent place to spot promotional offers; this was true yet again when we were passing through Hong Kong airport recently. Not only are the promotional products interesting, the Shelf Talkers advertising the promotion really do add to the overall marketing message. (Correction – this is a Sydney airport promotion)
Alcohol is well known as having a high duty rate. Therefore, along with cigarettes and perfume, it’s an incredibly popular item in duty free stores. Many people stock up on these ‘essentials’ while killing time waiting for flights and during layovers. In these pictures we can see two examples of promotions currently being run by both Jack Daniel’s and Grey Goose, large producers of whiskey and vodka respectively.
Both of these companies are offering a bag as a gift with purchase for their duty free promotion, however Jack Daniel’s requires the consumer to buy a gift box to qualify, whereas Grey Goose just requires the purchase of a 1L bottle.
Often alcohol companies have many products in their portfolio, differing in quality and therefore price. In this instance Jack Daniel’s is clearly trying to increase their sales for the Gold Medal premium special edition bottle. They’re offering it in a gift box with two whiskey glasses included. By offering items such as this that are essential in the consumption of the product, Jack Daniel’s add great value to their product and the consumer will remember this every time they enjoy the product.
