Commemorate 25th Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day With ODM

July 1st is Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day (香港特別行政區成立紀念日)! This day commemorates the transfer of Hong Kong’s sovereignty from the United Kingdom to the People’s Republic of China and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This year marks HKSAR’s 25th anniversary.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day is a public holiday. The general population gets this day off in Hong Kong. Schools and the majority of businesses are closed to commemorate the event.

It is a big day that also marks the miraculous economic surge in the region that fuelled innovation, development, and entrepreneurship.

Check out our Editorial Calendar to see all the holidays and special days we celebrate as a company. There are a lot of reasons to celebrate and plan marketing around these events.

A Quick Look Back

The day is reserved for official celebrations of Hong Kong and its unique “one country, two systems” arrangement with its mainland ally.

The handover ceremony culminated in Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai.

Thinking back to 2013 and the happier pre-Covid days of extravagant fireworks displays.

Hong Kong looks more captivating after the sun sets on Establishment Day as a spectacular fireworks display takes place in Victoria Harbour and we look forward to welcoming back a show again someday.

On the other hand, the legendary fireworks display will not occur as Covid still presents many challenges; however, there will be a special edition of A Symphony of Lights to commemorate the occasion.
