The fast food restaurant industry has played host to some radical changes over the last decade. This McDonalds Create Your Taste digital POS display is a great example of the noticeable power shift from the corporate to the consumer, as well as the much needed swing of emphasis to a more healthy ‘gourmet style’ food offering.
Create Your Taste is a new notion launched by McDonalds in Hong Kong earlier this year and plans to be introduced in over 20,000 restaurants all around the globe by the end of 2016. It allows the user to completely customise and pay for their meal via a large touch screen display.
Though, self-service capabilities have been present in various restaurants over the years this will undoubtedly be considered as the largest scale and most influential incorporation.
Domino’s distributed these self-service kiosks in various Universities in Spain, offering targeted promotions and student discounts.
Applebee’s included these tablets in selected restaurants around North America, enabling diners to order, pay, check whats going on around the area and even play games!
Fierce rivals KFC introduced these self-ordering counters in several of their US branches, whilst using designated pick up areas in store.
Many brands look for marketing innovations and new ways to speed up and smoothen operations, and this for sure is one of them. Let’s hope though that these incorporations of technology do not catalyst losses of jobs and instead stick to the current trend of creating new ones.
