McDonalds and Coca-Cola’s Chinese instant win promo
As you will see from the images here, McDonalds are currently running an instant win promo in China in association with Coca-Cola. For every value meal you purchase you get an instant win card; each with the chance to win a backpack, t-shirt, duffel bag or a medium coke. The consumer then just peels away panel after panel to reveal the result of each one. In this particular case the bottom panel had matching items and therefore a free medium coke was won.
What makes instant win promos so effective?
The chance of winning in this campaign is 50%, with the free medium coke making up 46.5% of that. While only 3.5% of participants win the 3 promo items it’s still a highly effective campaign as half of the consumers come away feeling like they’ve gotten something for free. Everybody likes something for free and that’s what most of McDonalds promotions play up to. Often giving away free cheeseburgers or ice creams.
McDonalds’s World Cup promotion is extremely vast. They’re taking full advantage of this huge sporting event. They’ve not only got worldwide promotions in their fast food restaurants but also online promotions. In this video commercial they’ve also used the recently trending viral trickshot style videos to spread their branding. They’ve used many shots around Brazil to create interest around this world cup time.
