AFTERLIFE: Recycled Tennis Ball Products Exhibition in Hong Kong

Tennis is a popular sport among people of all ages. It’s a good workout, and it’s fun to play. But after a long day of playing sessions and being the star of matches, have you ever wondered what happens to used tennis balls? Let us guide you in their afterlife through this recycled tennis ball products exhibition in Hong Kong.

Recycled Tennis Ball Products

In Hong Kong, tennis is a widespread and popular sport, with coaching programs, leagues and tournaments for all age groups and levels held throughout the year.

There are also a number of tennis courts in the city; three are for playing singles only, and the rest are for singles and doubles. Two practice courts are also available, which are half the size of the standard tennis courts.

Every year, almost two million balls are thrown away in Hong Kong.

The Environmental Impacts of Tennis Balls

Tennis balls are rubber balls covered in felt. The rubber ball is filled with pressurised air to ensure it will bounce properly. Over time, the pressurised air leaks out of tennis balls, making them unsuited for use.

However, despite the recyclable properties of its primary material, which is rubber, tennis balls themselves cannot at this time be recycled into new balls.

AFTERLIFE™

The Sports for Hope Foundation introduced this art exhibition to raise the consciousness of sustainability through various sports games.

In collaboration with Douglas Young, the initiative behind the very first project of AFTERLIFE™ is to give birth to a series of pieces of art furniture using abandoned tennis balls collected across Hong Kong.

Cylindrical bins have been placed across Hong Kong’s most popular tennis centres over the last two months to collect used balls, with the objective to collect approximately 10,000 balls per month.

The 11-piece collection of uniquely designed art furniture made with abandoned tennis balls was exhibited at the Lee Theatre Plaza in Hong Kong from July 17th to July 31st.

What Do We Love About this Art Exhibition?

Recycled Tennis Ball Products
The Pop-Up Booth

Custom pop-up displays, also known as pop-up booths, are display systems that allow displaying high-quality, eye-catching graphics, often in a larger format than others.

They are beneficial in transforming an ordinary area into life and bringing attention to the promotion taking place.

Aside from that purpose, we love how informative this pop-up booth from the art exhibition is. It is also integrated with a digital advertising screen.

The Experience

Nothing can beat the experience of seeing art with your own eyes. Being able to join the art exhibition is like attending a trade show for us where we can view and feel promotional products.

We love how it is open to the public where everyone can view and experience the tennis-themed art furniture collection before they are auctioned off to raise money for the foundation.

The experience itself is a powerful tool that can drive awareness for the initiative.

The more people who will see the art exhibition, the more people will get interested in joining the foundation and its future projects.

Accessibility

As we looked closer at the pop-up display, we spotted a quick response code that directed us to the Instagram account of AFTERLIFE™.

Following the account lets us see entrees from the participants who joined the social media games. We found this a convenient way of knowing how successful the exhibition will be even after leaving the site.

Moreover, we love how it made it easier for people to participate and stand a chance to win contest giveaways because, in a matter of seconds, they could upload their selfies or access the google form to submit their answers.

Branded Bins

Tennis ball-shaped branded bins are multi-purpose outdoor displays that are helpful not just in terms of advertising but also in keeping the court clutter-free all the time.

They can be a great storage solution for storing old and discarded balls off the tennis court to be easily collected later on for recycling purposes

This tennis ball-shaped sofa is a real conversation starter. It’s not just aesthetically pleasing, but it also makes people want to sit on it. The shape is very unique and eye-catching. It’s hard not to notice it in any room.
