In terms of manufacturing, no special machines or equipment are used to make them. They are harvested, cleaned, washed, and dried before they are sold to the market.

When sold fresh, the stem is cleaned with an iron rod before the final washing. The fresh ones can stay up to 2 weeks in the fridge. Boiling it with some salt and letting it dry is also a great way to prolong its life.

How bout dried ones?

The straws are dried in the sun for 2-3 days and then baked in an oven to kill any bacteria, mold, mildew, and contaminants that linger in the straws. The dried straws last for about 6 months at room temperature.
