What Are Holographic Labels?

Holographic labels are stickers printed on iridescent vinyl that appears to have depth in contrast to normal 2D stickers.

The iridescent type of paper has an eye-catching rainbow effect that changes the colour and angle of the image printed on it depending on the light and perspective people look at it.

These holographic labels are just as sturdy as regular stickers and just as customisable in shapes and designs, but with the added intriguing rainbow effect.

The Process of Printing Custom Holographic Labels

Step 1: Create a 3D Image

Pure light in the form of a laser is bent into two through a beam splitter to illuminate the object intended to capture in custom holographic labels in two ways.

The bent lights will be reflected on two different mirrors. One of those reflected lights will fall on the object. This is called the object beam. The other bent light will bounce off the holographic plate towards the object. This is the reference beam.

The interference rays of these two light beams react with a light-sensitive coating to record a three-dimensional image of the object.

Step 2: Record the 3D Image

The newly created 3-D images will be processed in a special chemical bath. Because of the chemical reactions caused by the laser in the optoelectronic machine, the surface of the decal sheet will resemble the surface of the image record.

Step 3: Create Pixel Elements

After recording the 3D image on the light sensitive coating, the base plate is attached to the mould and sprayed with silver paint to achieve good electrical conductivity. After that, the moulds are lowered into a reservoir along with a supply of nickel.

Step 4: Combine Individual Photo Layers

Layers containing pre-printed images are mounted in an embossing machine. This technique is part of holographic technology – determining the success of stamps.

A roll of polyester film (or similar material) smoothed with an acrylic coating is run through the machine. Under intense heat and pressure, a three-dimensional image is pressed onto the film to a depth of 25 million of a millimetre. Then, it’s all rolled up again.

Step 5: Create the Base Panel

At this stage, multiple copies of the original image are “combined” (replicated in rows) and used to print multiple copies with a single impression. These copies will be used in the production of the actual 7-colour hologram stamps to 3D print the final product.

Step 6: Finishing

Depending on the type of decal used and the unique characteristics of each stamp, one or more finishing steps may be performed. For example, hologram stamps on plastic bottles, glass jars or paper boxes.

Finally, the cutter gives the stamps the desired shape according to the customer’s requirements and can be printed with logos or messages. The added super-adhesive on the back of the panels helps them adhere better to product surfaces to ensure the security of the genuine product.
