Plastic Toy Manufacturer: The Process of Manufacturing Toys

Any product we see on the market goes through an arduous process that involves a lot of people, machines and skills. The manufacturing of toys is one of those and here are the basic processes involved.

  • Designing

This is the initial phase that will dictate the size, colour, and detail of the toy figurines. This is where everyone involved developed the vision that will soon be toys in stores.

  • 3D Modelling

The next step in the process is to make a 3D model of the figurine design. This can be done in a number of ways but the most common is through 3D printing or a wax modeller.

  • Mould Creating

Now that we have a 3D model of the toy figurine, it’s time to create a mould for mass production. The 3D model is put in a metal container and filled halfway with plaster.

When the plaster hardens, the 3D model is removed leaving a carved space.

After that, the carved space is filled with metal to be one-half of the figurine mould. The process is repeated for the other half to form the whole of the toy.

  • Plastic Injection Moulding

The whole mould of the figurine is then injected with melted plastic pellets. Once it cools down, it solidifies into a soft toy figurine that can be submerged in cold water to further solidify.

  • Finishing

The different parts of the moulded toy figurine are assembled and airbrushed or pad printed for colours and designs. After that, it is packed to be sent to stores.
