Metal Water Bottle Printing: How to Maximise Space for Branding?

Promotional water bottles are more than just containers; they’re actually effective in bringing your brand in front of your target audiences. But just like customising other promotional products, water bottle printing can also come with potential issues.

In this blog, let’s talk about the top printing methods, the issues that come with them and how we can maximise the space for your brand logo. Plus, some bottle design ideas that you can take inspiration too!

Branding Water Bottles

Branding merchandise is an essential part of your marketing plan. It’s what makes people remember you and come back for more. Your logo, tagline and brand colours are the first things that come to mind when setting up brand guidelines for product design.

There are a few things you’ll need to consider before committing to a particular style. Keep reading to learn more about the dilemmas of branding custom water bottles and how to make an informed decision.

1. What Type of Branding Do You Want?

Your first step is to decide which type of branding you want on your custom water bottle. Some companies go with very simple designs, such as their brand name and logo. Others prefer more complex designs that include slogans or popular quotes.

Think about which type of design best fits your brand image before making a final decision.

2. Which Colors Should You Use?

The next step is deciding which colours you should use on your custom water bottle. Bright colours tend to stand out more than bland ones, but they can also be overwhelming if overused. Consider the overall look that you’re trying to achieve and choose your colours accordingly.

3. Do You Want a Simple or Complex Design?

Simple designs are generally easier to print on water bottles, but they don’t always stand out as much as complex designs do. If you have a strong brand image, simple might be the way to go, but if you’re looking to make an impression, consider a more complex design.

Here is the situation: You can see the distance between the logo and the brand message or description for this bottle.

As custom water bottles come in different sizes, the size of logo moulds varies too.

Each bottle has its equivalent mould size for the logo, and the factory logo mould cannot be used universally.

Therefore, the client should choose a 75x50mm logo for 500ml or a 100×50 mm logo for a 700ml water bottle.

If the client wants to print the 500ml logo on a 700ml bottle, it will be inappropriate, and we need to open a new logo mould.

Setup cost will be required.

Through heat transfer method, the logo is printed on a roll of stickers according to the circumference and arc of the bottle.

If it is used on bottles with different perimeters and radians, there will be lines in the middle of the logo when the machine runs and prints, and the rejection rate is relatively high.

Methods of Water Bottle Printing

When a design is produced using the screen printing method, actual screens are used.

On the other hand, only one colour per screen is allowed, so depending on the number of colours in the logo, there will be multiple screens needed to print the logo.

This method is the fastest and most cost-effective, however, if you have more than one colour in your logo, the cost can quickly add up.

For logos that are in full colour, which is popular these days, full-colour digital imprinting is the way to go.

A digital printer is used to print the logo directly on the item.

CMYK (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black) inks are used so this method can reproduce pretty much any colour on the spectrum.

This is especially useful for designs that have gradients or with a photographic image.

However, the turnaround time is usually longer and it will cost slightly more.

This method only works on metal water bottles such as stainless steel and aluminium – but the effects can be classic and elegant.

A laser is used to carve away the top layer of the water bottle, exposing the material underneath. The result is a long-lasting imprint that you can feel, and it will never come off!

Due to the process, there is no colour imprint in laser engraving either, the colour of the imprint will depend on the colour of the material underneath.

The great thing about this method is that the details are precise and clean, but it will not work on logos with multiple colours.

The heat transfer method is a process that involves printing a design, logo or text onto special paper, which is then pressed onto the product using a heat press.

The heat and pressure from the heat press create a chemical reaction between the paper and the sheet of stainless steel, resulting in an image that looks like it is printed directly onto the stainless steel drinking bottle.

The imprinted design will last for years to come, even with constant daily use. The excellent performance of this transfer process in the appearance of stainless steel bottles has been favoured by most manufacturers and businesses.

Our Takeaways,

Manufacturing a product is a process that involves many variables, so it’s no surprise that mistakes can occur. But if you openly discuss your requirements and expectations with your manufacturer from the beginning, you’ll be much less likely to have issues down the line.

The more open you are with your manufacturer, the better they will understand your needs and desires. Keep them in the loop when you make changes to the design so they can flag potential issues before they arise. When they can clearly see what is important to you, they are in a much better position to help.
