How to Frame Your Marketing Message — Retail Shelving Display Ideas

In the crowded retail space, different brands leverage various in-store marketing strategies. One of them is utilizing a retail shelving display which can work perfectly to catch the customers’ very first sight. Maille Aperitif has taken this creative shelf branding idea, using a metal frame for its new line of products. When customers stand in front of a shelf full of similar products, aren’t the ones in a frame would likely pop up the most?

We found the idea of framing the products on-shelf undoubtedly brilliant. With minimalist design but no less luxurious and associated with the brand logo, the frame makes the products truly stand out from their competitors.

On top of that, the frame also serves as a plinth display, where you can see that the products are placed slightly higher than the ones out of the frame. This also enormously improves the effect of this POS display.

However, upon looking closer, we believe that the frame still needs slight improvement to obtain perfection. Besides, the structure’s design was not very compatible with metal sheets, which ended up having broken-off lines on the surfaces and disconnected junctions at the corners.

Therefore, we believe that with a minor adjustment on the design, retailers could strongly enhance the efficiency of this retail shelving display!

How to Frame your Marketing Message through Retail Shelving Display?

1. Choosing the Suitable Material

The primary materials used for frames are metal and wood. Materials for metal such as steel, aluminum, chrome, or for wood such as plywood, koa, and oak. These materials are strong, durable, long-lasting, and easy to custom. Steel is the most widely used for this type of product, but copper and aluminum follow second.

For on-shelf frames, we also believe that steel would be the most suitable material. Having tensile strength with flexibility, steel can be laminated, compressed, or molded into different shapes without being fractured or broken easily. Steel is rust reluctant, and with the attractive luster, its products can achieve a glorious appearance yet long and durable product lifespan.

2. The Matching Design

Even though steel can become a robust base for on-shelf displays, leaving it bland would not be a good idea. Take this on-shelf frame of Maille Apretitif as an example: the edges were disconnected and bent out, which could bring an unpleasant view for customers.

Besides the imperfect appearance, this is likely to be dangerous. Not only to the customers, but it can also be harmful to the supermarket employees when loading the goods up and down the shelves.

We suggest that there should be a cover outside the metal frame. It could be made of cardboard or compressed foam since these materials are suitable and budget-friendly. Retailers can reuse the structure by changing only the cover. It will also create a regular and neat appearance for the display itself and the whole aisle section. In other cases, they could also serve independently as a frame! Take a look at the example below.

3. Placing the Frame in the Right Place

It is easy to understand that brands would like to promote their products on top of the shelf. However, they also might have to consider the location when utilizing an on-shelf frame for an exemplary retail shelving display.

The size of the frame should depend on its location on the shelf. Placing it at the top for structures that take a large area of the shelf is undoubtedly flawless. However, for smaller frames, which usually take one or two lines, we recommend placing them at the center of the rack. By doing so, it can be straightly captured within the look and reach of every customer.

4. Seek Assistance from Reliable Third Parties

Coming up with a retail shelving display is not an easy task. There are a lot of factors that need to be considered in able to maximize effectiveness. With the critical points mentioned above, it is crucial to seek assistance from reliable third parties that can help you design and develop your on-shelf marketing display from start to finish.
